I have since removed the cheesy pixilated "mossy oak" striping and done a lot of other things. Coming soon to a MWI near you. (I hope)

Got the brakes all updated and bled, the tie rods have been flipped to the top of the knuckle and the factory pitman arm is reamed out to fit the newer sized tie rod end. '76 Wagoneer D44 with '78 Ford Bronco/F150 outers and the matching calipers/pads/rotors allowed me to keep my wheels and rear D44. I probably didn't save any there but it saved me a good chunk of work for now.

did you simply ream the knuckles?

no I got a kit from B.C.Broncos. Bought their economy reamer too. It is just a couple of tapered inserts. You ream the knuckle from the top until the insert sits flush in the hole. Drop the insert in and put the tie rod on.

ok,that's how it's done. you can't just simply ream them as i thought it was done.

You can't really just ream them and use stock size ends. You have to cut it oversize and use the insert to get rid of a lot of the bottom taper.

So I got the alignment taken care of. The Ford knuckles are a bit different than the Jeeps. The tie rod ears are pointed in more. The Jeep tie rods gave me just enough threads to put the toe in at just over 1/8".
I also noticed as I was working on the gas pedal mount that is on the floor, it is spot welded, not bolted to it. So the base will stay there for a heel rest until I can round up some sheet metal to patch it properly.

So now i'm thinking of putting a 5.3 and a 2wd 4L60E in her.

i support the idea. 6.0 tho.

I'd do a 6.0 if they were in my price range, they are almost double the cost of a 5.3 and they aren't double the impressiveness. Beside that the first few years had bad piston slap and they are the affordable ones.

now yer talking. about the same power as a stock amc 360........ (rofl)

I could build it up to match the power of a mildly built 360 that had an intake, carb, cam and header upgrade

So I am inquiring about the LT1. Now do I go with a 700R4/4L60 or a NV3500 5 speed medium duty trans if I end up buying the LT1?

put a car tranny in it. youre going 2wd right?

Post by Addicted on Oct 30, 2013 17:35:18 GMT -6
correct, I would love a car 5/6 speed. The biggest problem is people treat them like they treat 401's east of the mississippi.

So I am going 700R4/4L60E behind either an LT1 or a 5.3/6.0. The Jeep has the look I want already inside and out, with the center console and shifter. So I decided to not screw that up with a manual shifter sticking up through it somewhere else.

The LT1/4L60E that is going in the LT1 Wagoneer. Picked it up today just west of Lima, OH. It's from a '96 Buick Roadmaster. Complete other than the starter. 105Kish miles.

If I go with a Camaro grind cam I should probably do it before I put it in the Jeep when i'm freshening it up.
