Hes even got a rear Bumper !!!! Mint Nice resto job Mine had one as well. Though it had no caps, had been hit at least once and was missing several square inches thanks to mother nature and the State Highway Departments salt trucks.

Just to throw this out there, one of our customers at work owns a plastic molding company, and he's told me he is willing to do small quantity jobs. All he needs is a sample to make a mold from.
Not sure what it would cost though.

Not sure what it would cost though. I would love to have a set molded, but to set it up, the cost would be much much more than my making molds. I could imagine only 100 persons max would want the Type I caps. The Type 2 end caps would go to the baby jeeps as well, it would be more profitable. Still, would 500 be worth the molds? most baby Jeeps get aftermarket bumpers. I am thinking of this, but, I do not know if I want to get into it. If Your contact would want to cast endcaps for our Jeeps, the type 2 would be the way to go. I might however be willing to talk to him after I make the molds. Just a thought.

The steel end cap in on the right. The "plug" casting is the red part second from the right, that was used to make the mold on the far left. The test piece is second from the left. Test part pulled from mold and trimed. The surface is smooooth! the veins are my bad by not letting the gel coat set up enough, the next one will be pretty. Jig made to rout the section that will slide over the original bumper. I will add three or four more layers of cloth so there will be at least an eight of an inch of lip to sit against the steel bumper. The cut out that is recessed, will set on this lip and have alignment holes to align the el bolts to mount the end cap to the bumper. I will put a nut on each side, and glass the lower nut in, to have a stop when mounting. This is what it looks like before being popped out of the mold and trimed. Still a work in progress...

I was THINKING of possibly making some running boards. Way beyond my scope of things right now, but that's my thought. I have mocked some up from a junkyard, and it's not going to work.
I was thinking of making a thin plywood base, then fiberglassing it in. Or, using your plug method, building it from the top down. But I couldn't use the same mold for the left and right, so I don't know if it would be worth it.
Just thinking.

I think it could be done, but you would still have to have a steel frame to attach to the frame. Attachment of the fiberglass to the frame, well there is a challenge. Do you mold the framework into the fiberglass or bolt the fiberglass onto the frame? You could sculpture a left and a right, or sculpture a flat running board, and then make a front for each side and a rear for each side. Two molds instead of five... It would be a chore to do one running board in one piece, but I think it could be done. The five molds would be easier to handle, but more detailed work in assembly. Damn, why don't you ever think of something easy?? LOL.

Yea, it's not a priority. I have those silly looking 80's aluminum ones it came with. I could either put those back on, or use those as my 'cores' and add fiberglass to those.
I need something, but yes, making them out of fiberglass would probably be a real chore.
I'd be happy with just an aluminum step in the meantime, I guess.
I was thinking today, they would have to be specific left and right, they could match.
Just brainstorming, I guess WH.
Your end caps are really cool. Nice work.

Fiberglass running boards. We had an Anaheim conversion to a Suburban that had fiberglass running boards. They had 1/4" marine plywood inside the fiberglass and some steel channel underneath that connected to the frame (and the under side of the body). They held up well for the 4 or 5 years we had it. The ones I saw that weren't holding up had driven over something and crushed one.
Regarding the crown, be happy that is all he did. Have you read some of his other posts!!!!

Thanks Deliii,
I am enjoying it, and still shaking down all the new parts. Replaced the alternator, the fuel pump, the cable to unlatch the hood, the spark plugs, the backup light quit working, and the fuel gauge will not work. I still have not understood the Weber carb to it's fullest.
The next trip, it will turn 1,000 miles. My goal was to take my hunting partner Spring Gobbler hunting when it was done, I had thought It would be ready in 2011, but I was three years late. I took it seven times this season to the woods...
I was pleased.
Thanks for commenting!
