Yep, took off the end of my left index finger last Sunday while splitting some gnarly elm. I split a 12" chunk to within 2 inches of the end and it wouldn't separate, so I turned it around to complete the split and foolishly had my index finger in between the 2 chunks. The wood split next to the existing split, forcing 2 pieces together, removing my finger. Lost focus and became careless. These things will jump up and bite you! Mike, I know you split and burn quite a bit, don't be an idiot like me!

OUCH!!! Hope it is feeling better Brett. Was it salvageable and re-attached? Makes my hand hurt thinking about it. ouch. yeah,i am very conservative with the saw and the splitter. a nancy if you will. I'm a scaredy nancy with those chores and take my time in the staying out of the way department. Had a close call winching trees with the 76 Waggy once. <shudder>

They wouldn't reattach it. I brought it with still in the glove, just in case. My wife shook it out and took a picture at the hospital, much braver than I. Finally looked at the picture yesterday, yuck!
