Simple coolant leak...sigh.
As usual never what is seems w/ my junk.
Cover gasket was installed improperly by someone before I got it. Timing cover is eroded because of it. Cheap timing chain that was really stretched out. Oil pump cover had remnants of 2nd gasket and one edge is all boogered up.
Parts were in yesterday, but no time to work on it. Had to go fetch some leather furniture @ the in-laws house which only took me 7 hours.

It figures I had a real nice spare cover I let go of a while back. Now I'm stuck putting lipstick on a pig. It couldn't have started leakin' when I had 4 360 engines laying around either I guess.

never works that way. you'll need the parts you just gave away cuz you were sick of tripping on them.

98% done with this PITA. Resurfaced the damaged cover coolant areas w/ JB Weld Refurbed the cover/oil filter adapter and threw in new pump gears. Not really sure how this engine had good oil pressure? The timing cover pump surface wasn't flat or even close to it. Clearance was only .002 and pretty much zilch in the center around the gear(s) opening. It was concave! I stopped @ .006, and put it together. It's all back together w/ the exception of the thermostat housing. Mine was really in poor shape so on a new one to show up. Cold oil pressure is ~70psi now. Have to wait until I fill it up w/ coolant to find out if warm pressure is any different than before.

sounds good. you open up the inlet or outlets in the pump cavity?

Just cleaned them up a little w/ a file.
Just installed the t-stat housing and ran it for a while (30 minutes). Can't get it hot enough to open the thermostat. Hovering ~180* oil pressure dropped to 60psi @ idle.
No obvious leaks yet, but system isn't under any pressure yet either. Time will tell...

in my experience if they don't leak while sitting there they won't after warm up either.

in my experience with these old turds, the t-stat housings tend to stop leaking when they pressurize if they leak just sitting there. Lol!

Looks like the oil pump rebuild and increased oil pressure was too much for the rear main seal. Got a river flowing under the Jeep now....sigh

Luckily those are doable without pulling the trans or engine.

the rear seal does not see oil pressure.

Just assumed...it's just pouring out when the engine is running, stops leakin' after shut off. Doesn't really matter, I'm done w/ the 360 in there. Not gonna lay on my back to fix it, and if I pull it not going back in.
