the shoutbox here is not smooth like we mirc guys got used to-when it wasn't booting us off every 15 seconds.
i had a new one embedded last night, and it worked good for me from home, where i downloaded it and embedded it.
from work it wanted me to type my user name in every post, even after logging in.
who else had issues with the embeeded one last night/ who else did not have issues and liked it.
i would love a real time shoutbox,so input is welcome.
the shoutbox sets this palce apart from the other fsj site alternatives, and i like that, the group we have here, and how the instant comm of the box keeps the actual posts more precise and on topic.

I thought the 1st one was better. The one you changed to was really slow and appeared to be hitting several ad/banner servers. I could punch something in hit enter and watch about a dozen different server addresses every time. Also didn't think the let anybody type anything was good.

The new one last night wasn't terrible. I didn't have to sign back it after logging in and selecting the stay logged in box, but i'm only using one computer. Haven't tried it on my phone yet. I did find it odd that it would refresh after every post I made.
The one that we currently have(origial)is alright if you are contributing, as it stays up to date. Walk away for a min and you need to refresh it before posting as you might be saying something that doesn't fit it the current conversation.

I'd bet w/ a little effort could set up our own private one w/o too much trouble? I can dig around for info if you want. I have lots of old computer(s) laying around, and I've even seen wifi routers that can run apps if you load 'em up w/ linux.
@ one point I had 2 servers in the garage running all kinds of web & email apps. Still have the rack and the servers, even a UPS. Haven't turned 'em on in a while though.

I'll see what I can find out. I'd bet $ there is opensource chat software out there. proboards is kind of it's own animal on some things though.
If 3rd party hosted chat stuff works though, it can likely be done.

if you are on your smart phone you need to scroll to bottom of page, and click on desktop, lower right corner. forum automatically goes to an abbreviated format that removes shoutbox for phones.
